After being demolished by years of war, the lives of the people of South Sudan had been changed forever. Mr. Salva Dut was one of the "Lost Boys" who roamed the country, fighting for survival with a hope of making it to a refugee camp. He had no idea if his family was alive. Salva ended up being amongst the lucky few who made it to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya. He was taken in by a family in Rochester, NY, where he began to lead a life vastly different from the one he had known in his home country.
After years of searching for news about his family, Salva learned that his father had fallen gravely ill at a clinic in South Sudan. Despite the dangers of returning to the war-torn country, Salva flew to Sudan as soon as he could. When he reached the clinic, Salva was told that his father's sickness was due to the dirty water his father drank everyday.
Wanting desperately to do something for his family and his home country, Salva hatched an idea and Water for South Sudan was born. Water For South Sudan is a thriving charity that provides drinking wells for the thirsty people in South Sudan. Now, people have access to safe, clean, drinking water, and sicknesses like those Salva's father contracted, are being prevented. Water for South Sudan is a great example of how if you have a dream, you can work to make it come true.

Kids for South Sudan is what we call our action. What started as a simple idea, just like Salva Dut's, transformed into a neighborhood lemonade stand, raising $187.56 for Water for South Sudan. In this website, you will see and read about what exactly six kids were able to do to help and what exactly sparked our motivation. We hope you can take something away from this website: If this was what six kids could do, then what amazing things could the world achieve if we all worked together?
