Our Inspiration
As many stories like these do, ours begins with a teacher. Inside a sunlit classroom, Mrs. Marilynn Neuville captured the interest of two students while reading the book, Long Walk to Water, outloud to the class. After the book was finished and the knowledge of Water for South Sudan was fresh in our minds, all one teacher had to do was provide the spark.
"What are you going to do to change the world?" Mrs. Neuville said. "We can do a lemonade stand for Water for South Sudan," both of us had our answer. "That's a great idea!" She told us, and that was all the motivation we needed to put our plan into action.

A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, tells Salva's story; the story that inspired us to do what we did. The book describes a small portion of Salva's life before the war, his journey across the desert to Ethiopia and Kenya, his life in Rochester, and the blossoming of his charity. It also tells the fictional story of a young girl who spent her whole life walking miles to provide drinking water for her family and how Water for South Sudan changed her life.
